Lindean Community Woodland
Lindean and Bailhill Wood is owned by Borders Forest Trust and covers an area of approximately 7.7 Ha. The woodland consists of two distinct sections, Bailhill - a prominent hill and Lindean Burn - which forms a steep gully woodland. Both areas consist of mixed woodland of varied age structures. The woodland is managed by the Lindean Community Woodland Group and BFT. The wood is used regularly by the local community for informal recreation - mainly walking and educational/ activity visits are also jointly organised by BFT and the Community Woodland Group. There is a great deal of significant flora and fauna, notable species include - bluebell, red squirrel and tawny owl. In recent years the group have successfully applied for grants, which has enabled them to make access improvements, install picnic benches and signage.
Access
There is a good path network throughout the woodland. Not suitable for those with limited access.
How to reach Lindean Wood
From Galashiels head along the A7 towards Selkirk, turn off to the left into Lindean heading towards Lindean Loch, once past the village hall turn right after 100m at the Old School House. A rough track extends a further 100 yards past some houses, swing left over a small culvert bridge and continue along this track for a further 50m. Take the first left turn along a smooth section of road heading directly to the woodland on the hill. Parking is restricted to two cars in front of the kissing gate and a further two cars can park in a small informal parking space past the woodland gate, some 20m on the right. (Grid ref NT492 314)
