Ladyurd Community Woodland
Ladyurd Community woodland is a mixed woodland of plantation origin and forms part of the Ladyurd Forest. The area considered a Community Woodland covers an area of approximately 14 hectares and is owned by Forestry Commission Scotland. The woodland is managed by an elected management group (consisting of members of FCS, BFT and local people from Lamancha, Newlands and Kirkurd Communities). The main aim for this project is to encourage the preservation, creation and conservation of habitats for native species, to enhance biodiversity and encourage community interest (recreation/ education) and participation.
The woodland has problems with invasive salmonberry and is currently working with The Tweed Forum to control this problem.
Access
There are a series of informal paths and forest tracks throughout the woodland. Not suitable for those with limited access.
How to reach Ladyurd Wood
The site lies between Blyth Bridge and Peebles, off the A72. The area is particularly well used by local walkers and can be accessed by a forest track leading to a small formalised car park. (Grid ref - NT 142436).
