Heronhill Community Woodland
Heronhill Woods are five small individual woods of differing character. Some are mature stands of trees whilst others are relatively new, planted in 1999.
The woodlands and the land joining them are owned by the firm of James Tully and are under a 25 year management agreement with Borders Forest Trust. Practical management is by a small enthusiastic group. The woods are well used by the people of Hawick, with great views over the town form the highest wood. Pond Wood is one of the best locations in Hawick to watch Dragonflies on a summer's day, whilst Boundary Wood has an impressive display of summer flowers with a few local rarities.
Access
A grass path leads up the strenuous hill and meets Heronhill Bank Wood. You can turn left at this point to Thornwood or carry on up the hill towards Pond Wood. After a rest you can venture further up the hill to Dinlees Wood and then across the road and field towards Boundary Wood.
>How to reach Heronhill Woods
Take the A698 from Denholm to Hawick. After passing the A6088 turning and the entrance to the hotel on your left turn off into Weensland Park. Turn left at the T junction and follow the lane until you see the access sign. Follow this for a short distance until you reach fields which lead to the woods.
